We are in the process of selling our home, and the inspection report said our natural gas distribution system should be bonded to ground because it uses CSST in places. How can I confirm it is bonded to ground? This New Jersey property was built in 2013, which is after (I think but may be wrong) CSST bonding was part of code. Everything is behind finished drywall, so to get eyes on the actual grounding clamp would mean opening the wall, which I want to avoid. I measured the voltage difference ...
Bonding is connecting metal stuff together. The intent is to bond all of the metal that we can so it all has the same voltage potential in the event of a ground-fault. This helps to ensure there is a nice... There is a lot of confusion in the home inspection and real estate industries about gas pipe bonding. Grounding and bonding are two very different things yet, from my experience, many electricians... I’m wondering if any electricians could share their views on how they feel about bonding CSST gas lines. In my state, gas techs can’t go into electrical panels and from my experience, most electricians will not touch anything gas related. So, it can become a source of headaches for homeowners trying to get their gas lines corrected. Very often, CSST (Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing) is not properly bonded to the electrical grounding system on both sides of the regulator.
The bonding point for CSST must be at the first piece of steel or copper pipe where the gas service enters the home. This is because lightning can blow holes in CSST, causing a gas leak.

Two quick questions. My house was built pre-2009. It has CSST gas lines. One, is there a way to tell if the lines are ground or not, other than visual inspection? My basement is finished, so I can't trace all of the lines. Only the utility room is unfinished. Second, if built pre-code change, is bonding them required or are they grand fathered in. I'm trying to figure out if I even need to address this or not(location - PA).
A property is mandating that the gas system be bonded using a #6 copper wire per manufacture standards since the gas system contains runs of CSST. The question is, the gas tree is located within a foot of the water heater. The water lines to the water heater are bonded with a #4 copper line that runs directly to the main panel. Is it suitable to install a split-bolt onto the water bond wire and connect the #6 wire from there to a clamp on the gas tree? Why or why not?
omg what. How. Help.
Had a gas line installed to an outdoor grill (will attach a flex line). It was a short run of about 9' coming off black pipe in the basement. When I went down I saw that a flexible pipe was installed rather than black pipe. I was told it is TracPipe's CounterStrike CSST. I have read about the catastrophes with the early yellow jacket CSST. I understand this was easier to run to avoid several 90's, and know PEX is common with water, but had I known I would have asked for tried and true blac...
Hi H.I. ! Need some electrical advice. Here's a terrible sketch of the situation. http://imgur.com/4aJzaco 1996 house, and I'm going through the punchlist of items that the home inspector flagged. One of them is CSST flex gas piping (crawlspace) needing to be grounded/bonded to electrical system. This is to keep lightning strikes from exploding the CSST flex and our house I guess? Is normal gas piping immune to this and therefore doesnt require? Who cares....gotta do it so wife can be happy....

Hi all, Didn't quite get the full answer I needed in /r/HomeImprovement Had a handyman a few months back run a line for a gas range. He used the standard yellow CSST for the addition instead of the black pipe. Turns out, he didn't bond/ground it like he should have. Based on what I've seen / read (such as http://www.csstsafety.com/Images/CSST-Direct-Bonding-Tech-Bulletin.pdf) I'm a little confused on how to properly bond/ground it. My gas meter and electrical panel are about 10' apart outs...
Hello I have a 100 gallon propane tank in my backyard. There is 1/2 copper running from the tank under ground into my basement where there is a cast manifold. One copper line comes out of the manifold runs to a fireplace and a csst line runs to a cook top. There isn’t any ground at the tank or manifold. I live in PA and wasn’t sure if I should ground from the csst connector to a sub panel that is about 4 ft away? It just seems weird there isn’t any grounding at all.

Hi all, I have a 220v propane range that is supplied via CSST to a pair of propane tanks. Can the CSST be bonded to the #6 ground from the range plug circuit? I believe this would satisfy the CSST bonding requirements since it's going back to the main panel ground. I didn't run a dedicated #6 from the panel to where the propane tanks are located and now it would be almost impossible to do it due to spray foam insulation. Thanks in advance!
